Featured Horse:Chalani Ballet & Alisha Rudiger.
Alisha Rudiger and Chalani Ballet took out the Helen Junge Memorial Award for Young Dressage Riders at the Royal Adelaide Show on the 21st August 2011.
Young riders aged between 12 and 17 are eligible to enter the Novice test at the Adelaide Royal Show. The leading rider in the Novice Class is awarded the ‘Helen Junge Memorial Perpetual Trophy’ and receives an inscribed riding whip donated by the Dressage Club of South Australia. This prize can only be won once by any rider and is a prestigious award for juniors to win. Previously, in 2009 Chalani Apollo and Chari-Lee Hoad took out this award and Ballet is possibly the third Chalani ASH to have won this award.
What an achievement for Alisha who has only been riding for 18 months!

Dilutes Australia SA State Championship Show|
On Sun the 20th November, we travelled to Trinity College Equestrian grounds for the Dilutes Australia SA State Championships with Chalani Sunstream and Chalani Silk. They had interstate judge Peter Rossington from QLD in Ring 1 (closed to Dilutes Australia registered dilutes). Sunny was Junior Champion Palomino (pic right) and Silk was Senior Champion Palomino (pic left). Silk then won Grand Champion Palomino for the 3rd year in a row. Sunny was also Supreme Champion Ancillary Dilute (all dilute colours).
Morphett Vale Breeds Show|
On Sun the 13th November, we attended Morphett Vale breeds show with Chalani Skylark and Chalani Sunstream. Skylark was Reserve Champion Junior ASH (to a Splashdance grandson) and Sunny was Junior Champion Palomino in the Dilutes Australia classes and Grand Champion Ancillary Dilute. This was his first show and we were very impressed with his excellent behaviour.
Stud Open Day|
On Sat the 12th November, we held our first ever Stud Open Day (followed by a Picnic lunch). This was a very successful day with the group that attended. They had the opportunity to see Splashdance show off his movement in the round yard, observe how we handle our foals and learn how we start a young horse being led from a ridden horse. Photos are available on our photo gallery page. Horizons Photography (Megan Poser) took some photos of the day, which are on her facebook page. Peter Gower took the photos of Sunstream being led from Jive.
Nuniong Beebie foaled a taffy filly on 16 Sept. We have named her Chalani Sangria, after the red spanish cocktail. We expect she will mature about 15.2hh and will be retained by the stud.
Chalani Paper Lace foaled a bay filly on 8 Oct. She has a 'lookalike' blaze to her mother (foal photo of Paper Lace on our logo). Very leggy and super pretty, she has been named Chalani Chiffon.
Both foals are by Splashdance. More photos to come.
Adelaide Royal Show Hack & ASH 2011|
Chalani Jive competed in the Show Hunter classes at her first Royal.
She received a call in the Open Show Hunter 15-16hh and a call in the Child's Show Hunter Horse (ridden by Chari-Lee Hoad). We think she made history as the first pinto to compete as a Show Hunter hack at Adelaide Royal.
Results from the ASH led and ridden classes include:
Chalani Jive - 2nd Led ASH mare, 5th ASHLA, 3rd Stockman's turnout, 4th ASH Hack, 2nd Ridden ASH mare, 3rd Station Horse.
Chalani Apollo - Champion Ridden ASH, 1st ASHLA (Open age and Junior), 2nd Stockman's Turnout, 2nd ASH Hack, 1st Ridden ASH Gelding, 1st Station Horse, 1st Working ASH.
Chalani Opera - 3rd Led ASH mare, 1st Ridden ASH mare, 6th ASH Hack.
Chalani Walkabout - 3rd Ridden ASH Gelding.

Yanjarra Park Festivity|
Yanjarra Park Festivity is pictured on Horse Deals Gallery (top right photo), placing 2nd in the Futurity at the 2011 Gympie ASH Branch Annual Futurity, Youth & Challenge on the 26th Jun 2011. She is owned by the Knapp family who also own Chalani Magic and a daughter of Chalani Nightdance. Festivity is by Splashdance and one of the foals resulting from him standing at stud in QLD.
ASH World Championships Show|
Held in May at Tamworth NSW, Chalani was represented by the 2 black stallions Chalani Playwright and Chalani Nightdance (full brothers by Splashdance from Chalani Giselle). Playwright won his 3yo Station Horse class! Both had a successful show, placing in classes under saddle, Nightdance being ridden by Dan Steers from Double Dan Horsemanship, owned by Ashborn Park Stud.
Here's what Kelleigh had to say about her trip: "We had a great trip up to Tamworth and really had the WOW FACTOR!!!!! Player was perfectly behaved in his box for the week but thought it was a great joke tipping his water out of his container, MMM! I'm really happy how he went and myself yeah pretty nervous but then I wasn't going all that way to stuff it up either.
In the show side of things we placed 4th in our led, 4th in the pleasure, 4th in his hack, 5th in his working, and the one I am very proud of, FIRST IN HIS STATION HORSE!
In the futurity we placed 11th in the led, 8th in our hack which [meant] at this stage we were in 6th place overall. We didn't stuff up in Time Trial but just find it really hard to get a good flow, our overall placing ending up being 30th out of 61 competitors.
Justin and I could not be any happier. Now Player is back home, we are in the middle of calving so that will be his job for the next month, hacking down the paddock to bring cows and calves in and just chilling out. Will forward photos when I get my hands on them".
Chalani Playwright & Kelleigh Henzen
The young stallion Chalani Playwright, aka 'Player', has been consistently winning at ASH shows in Victoria. After winning at Melbourne Royal, Melbourne Summer Royal and Barastoc Horse of the Year under saddle, he has taken out the 3yo ASH Futurity at the Victorian State Championships. At this show he was 1st in his led, won the Futurity (9 entries), 1st Newcomer Final, Champion Junior hack, 3rd in his Working, 4th Station Mount (from 38 entries!!) and 5th overall highpoint of the show. He was 3rd in the state for the year.
He has been High Point of the day at ASH Branch shows and has won huge station hack and pleasure classes in open age groups as a 3yo. Kelleigh has managed to overcome her show nerves to achieve this success with Player. We wish them well with their trek to the National ASH Show in Tamworth in May 2011 and look forward to hearing about his first foals.
We congratulate Chalani Apollo & Chari-lee Hoad on a very successful SA State Dressage Championships (23 & 24 April 2011) with the following placings:
ALSO: Congratulations to Cathy Beer and Chalani Auster (from Chalani Aurora, the same dam as Apollo) on her 2nd placing in the Novice 2B at the Adelaide Hills Dressage Club Official competition on 10th April. They scored 67.42% (only a fraction of a percent behind the winner). They were also 6th in the Prelim 1B with Splash of Gold (by Splashdance) 7th in the same class (owner/rider Jo Cullen).

Grand Cru Horse Trials|
Chalani Jarrah competed at his first One Day Event at Grand Cru Horse Trials (April 2011) for 2nd place at Introductory level. This was from 35 horses. Rider Tyson Zoontjens says Jarrah is one of the most confident, boldest horses he's jumped in a long time, especially considering the limited jumping Jarrah has done in recent years. Owner Eva Rhodes says everyone comments on what a lovely horse he is with such lovely paces and how good his rhythm is.
Congratulations, we're sure there will be more eventing stories about Jarrah to come!
5 April 2011|
Facebook We now have a Facebook page you can become a fan of.
Chalani Thistle competed at the Lockington Horse Trials on the 26th Feb 2011 for 8th place. Here's what owner/rider Anne Parson's has to say:
"We competed in Introductory A level as we only started eventing at pony club grade 4 level last year. Thistle went clear in the show jumping with no time faults and clear in cross country, but we were one minute slower than optimum time. If we had been at optimum time we would have come 3rd overall out of 28 competitors but we came 8th which was brilliant anyway for us two old grey mares."
Chalani Triton was placed 5th at the Reynella Horse Trials in the Preliminary section with Duncan Crichton on the 20th March 2011. Triton even has his own facebook page.
Congratulations to you both.

Chalani Jive was Champion Led Senior ASH and Reserve Champion ASH Hack. She also competed in the open hack ring for 2nd Open Show Hunter over 15hh.
14 March 2011|
Connections to Chalani Australian Stock Horses got to be film stars for a day! FEI TV, a UK film crew contacted Chalani to do an interview with Jeanette Gower about Australian Stock Horses, while they were in Adelaide (they were also conducting filming for Adelaide 3DE promotions).
Chari-lee Hoad and Chalani Apollo demonstrated their whip cracking and flying change prowess, Chalani Nightdance showed off his liberty skills, (along with owner Paula Garrard's newly learnt ability to perform them) while Chalani Trivia and Kim Ide showed the ridden skills of a younger version of Apollo.
The programme appears in many languages over the world to approximately 400 million viewers. What a great promotion for ASH worldwide! We will provide details about when the TV show is to be released.
See the 'behind the scenes' Photo Gallery.
Chalani Jive - Show Results
Jive has been competing successfully in the open hack ring during February and March, in Show Hunter and Hack classes. She was Reserve Champion Show Hunter over 14hh at Mannum Ag show (accruing 2 x 1sts in hack classes in the morning ring and 2 x Show Hunter wins).
She competed at the Show Hack Council Rising Star Hack Show under interstate judges, for 3rd placings in the Newcomer Show Hunter over 15hh and Novice Show Hunter over 15hh (10 horses). She has received many favourable comments from judges and competitors alike, who no doubt haven't judged a pinto in the open hack ring very often!!
Jive is now qualified to enter the Show Hunter classes at Adelaide Royal.

Melbourne Summer Royal Show
Splashdance progeny win at Melbourne! Chalani Action was the winner of the Led ASH Mare over 4 years over 15hh and then took out Champion Led ASH mare. Congratulations to her owner Felicity Chafer.
Chalani Playwright was the winner of the Ridden ASH, 3 years and under and 2nd in the Working ASH, 3 years and under. Well done to Kelleigh Henzen and the connections to Playwright! A photo of Playwright appears on the Horse Deals website (2nd to last photo on the right).
Chalani Action & Felicity Chafer
"Melbourne Summer Royal was Action's first big show and she behaved herself impeccably, which made the day very enjoyable. We had a very big day out and received Champion Led ASH Mare. It was an extremely hot day with no wind and we both were feeling it by the end of the day. We were going to go in the ridden class but I scratched her, I was feeling quite hot and a little sick.
Anyway our aim is to compete in all the ridden classes next year. She has an awesome trot, which the judge [Sam Davidge] commented on. She said she hasn't seen a stock horse trot like that for a while and that she seemed to float. It's even better to ride!
She seemed to take it all in her stride, the noise, the spectators, everything. I am very proud of her!!!
We have only done local riding club shows up until now and she has never not come home with a champion of some sort. We had a show last weekend, which was an open show and she won open led hack of the show."
German Work Experience Visitor
For 4 days during January we had the lovely Julia Roether, a German tourist on a working visa, stay at Chalani, to learn about Australian Stock Horses. Julia proved herself a competant rider and horse handler and even attended a jumping rally on Chalani Trivia at Strathalbyn Adult Riding Club. Julia first learnt about Chalani Horses through studying the Dutch translation of Jeanette's book Horse Colour Explained. Certainly helps to be mulitlingual!
